Unlike iPhone, iPad has two separate resolution requirements depending on screen size. App Store Connect expects a different pixel dimension for larger iPads (Pro, Air) versus the standard iPad and iPad mini. Submit the wrong one and the upload silently fails.
Apple requires exact pixel dimensions for each iPad size class. There's no wiggle room — a single pixel off and App Store Connect rejects the file.
| Device | Portrait | Landscape |
|---|---|---|
| iPad 13" / 11" / 10.5" | 1200 × 1600 | 1600 × 1200 |
| iPad 9.7" | 900 × 1200 | 1200 × 900 |
Add Screen Recording to Control Center
Go to Settings → Control Center and add “Screen Recording” if it’s not already there.
Open Your App
Navigate to the screen or flow you want to capture for the preview video.
Start Recording
Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center. Tap the record button. You get a 3-second countdown before recording begins.
Stop Recording
Tap the red status bar at the top of the screen, or open Control Center and tap the record button again. The recording saves to your Photos app.
Split View / Slide Over changes resolution
If your app is running in Split View or Slide Over, the screen recording captures the multitasking layout — not the full-screen resolution Apple expects. Always record in full-screen mode.
Stage Manager alters capture dimensions
Stage Manager on iPadOS resizes app windows dynamically. A screen recording taken while Stage Manager is active will capture the windowed dimensions, not the native display resolution.
External display mirroring gives wrong resolution
If your iPad is connected to an external display, mirroring can change the effective capture resolution. Disconnect external displays before recording.
iPadOS screen recording is VFR
Like iPhone, iPad screen recordings use variable frame rate (VFR). App Store Connect requires constant 30 fps. The recording must be re-encoded to CFR before submission.
Upload your iPad screen recording and LaunchSpec converts it to the exact spec App Store Connect expects. No manual resizing, no codec guesswork, no re-encoding headaches.
